Four Legged Scholars LLC – Dog Training – Ravenna and Surrounding Areas
Are you struggling with a dog that pulls on the leash? Are your leash walks frustrating because your dog drags you? You are not alone. This is a common issue.
As a result, we have helped many clients get their dogs walk peacefully on the leash. We can help you create this through dog training. Ravenna dog walks will be much more peaceful.
I personally have been training for over 14 years. I have experimented with many leash walking tools. The best tool is the front hook harness. It is a cool tool because it doesn’t hurt your dog.
Many other leash walkings tools can hurt your dog such as choke collars or prong collars. Even the gentle leader (a head collar) , which by the way I do love, is very aversive to some dogs. As a result, I have be choosey when using the gentle leader.
How does this harness work? Imagine a leash hooked to your chest. If you were to pull, you would loose your balance. A back harness allows you to have much strength which is why back hook harnesses are great for mushing.
My favorite place to get the front hook harness is through Softouch Concepts Inc. They will fix your harness if your dog chews through it. They also make harnesses that have more padding so they are softer for dogs that pull hard.
Also, they have thicker harnesses for stronger pullers. This actually makes it harder for the dogs to pull as well. I love using the 1 inch think harnesses rather than the 3/4 inch thick harnesses for really strong pullers. Their sizing is also awesome!
They have a medium large size for dogs that are inbetween sizes and a huge variety of size options. Even better yet they are the founders of this type of harness and their customer service is awesome! No I do not get money or points for advertising for them. I just personally love this company.
Don’t forget when you use this harness to still do dog training. Ravenna dog owners sometimes think they can get their dog to walk loosely on the leash with a tool without having to do dog training. Most of the time this is not the case.
Start with a c/t (click and treat) when your dog walks loosely on a leash. If he pulls you will take a step backwards or change directions when your dog pulls. Both of these options will guide your back to your side.
Of course we understand that having help can make it easier to apply dog training. Ravenna is an area where we do serve. We can come personally to your home and help you.
