Four Legged Scholars LLC – Chesterland – Dog Training and Surrounding Areas
Are you struggling with getting your dog to listen to you all of the time?
Many of us can get our dogs to listen some of the time and yet all of the time is a struggle for many.
We can relate, and we can help.
This past week at my clients house near Chesterland, dog training was a struggle during the past week.
The owner was having a hard time getting her dog to come throughout the day when times felt urgent.
The owner needs to go somewhere or to get her dog to be quiet now and her dog won’t come to her. She has trouble catching her dog and then asks her children to help her.
During our training sessions together, their dog comes perfectly. So what is going on? This is a common issue and is a secret you want to know about.
The techniques you learn about dog training have to be done all the time. Change these pressured moments to be dog training moments.
Don’t just expect your dog to do the behavior that you want, but instead actively train him in these moments.
You have to change your mind-set from urgency to being geared to success. How can you create success with your dog right now?
For Sammy when he is distracted he comes best when we re-train the behavior.
This is true for most dogs. We used a lure and a running prompt to get him to come. So the solution seems simple.
Yet it can be difficult to implement for dog owners in Chesterland. Dog training is easier to do during set times throughout the day.
The trick is to notice when you feel pressured, overwhelmed, in a time crunch, stressed, etc. Whatever you want to call it. Then in that moment take a deep breath.
Ask yourself the question “how can I create success right now?”. See what answers come to you. You might be surprised about the answers that come to you.
For Sammy’s owner it was carrying treats on her all day, and taking the time to train him during these pressured moments.
Instead, we tend to want to yell at our dogs, repeat the command multiple times, or just surpass training all together. Yelling etc. takes time.
Training takes time too. Training will create a successful outcome. So when you feel pressured, think of all the time you waste when you yell. Choose to train instead.
I want to sympathize with you. I am a single mom and my daughter is 5 years old. I notice when I feel pressured and I yell it takes so much time and energy.
I also didn’t get a happy and successful end result. When I breath, take the time to teach my daughter something instead, I actually save time.
I usually create the end result we want faster than if I yelled. Even better, we are both happy.
I hope you choose to apply this with your dog in your homes in Chesterland. Dog training takes time and effort. However, it is worth it.
Imagine the day when your dog is distracted and listens to you. If you keep training, it will happen. Think of how happy you feel. Your efforts have paid off. You can do it!.
