Are you struggling with getting your dog to listen and are you confused on where to get help? You are not alone.
Many people experience trouble in finding good help in regards to training their dogs. Especially because there are so many choices in dog training. Ravenna has numerous dog trainers nearby.
Some are good. Some bad. How do you know what is in a good dog trainer?
Here is a list of qualities that you will find in a good dog trainer.
1.) They love people and dogs. A trainer that isn’t good with people is a huge red flag. They need to be able to train you as well as your dog. The human end of training is more important than training the dog end.
2.) They are compassionate and care about your feelings. A trainer that just wants to give you tools and doesn’t care about any of your emotions is a waste of time in my opinion.
Dog training brings up emotions for many dog owners. If I am training an aggressive or fearful dog, the owner usually has emotions about it. They want support through this emotional turmoil.
Your thoughts and emotions affect much of your dog training. Ravenna may have many trainers nearby, but you need someone that cares.
3.) A good trainer knows how to help you be accountable in a friendly and kind manner. There is nothing worse than getting the training tools that you need but then struggling to apply them.
I have had numerous owners be afraid of doing their homework because they have a limiting belief such as a fear of failing. It is normal.
I am certified in NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programing) so that I can help people overcome their obstacles during dog training. Ravenna is definitely an area we can serve if you want help from us.
4.) The trainer charges the right amount. Many trainers are so cheap that you just aren’t going to get results.
I am sorry to say this but psychologically it is true. If you pay more for something your committment is higher. Don’t look for the best or cheapest deal.
5.) The trainer is certified. Anyone can wake-up and be a dog trainer. There is no required certification. I love the Certification of Pet Dog Trainers. Ravenna doesn’t have many certified trainers so do your research.
6.) The trainer uses positive methods. There are many trainers that are “balanced” trainers. This means that they use painful methods to train your dog and rewards. T
his isn’t good. You want a trainer that is strictly positive when performing dog training. Ravenna again is lacking in these so do your research. Here is a great article on why it is important to do positive dog training.
