Four Legged Scholars LLC – Aurora Dog Training and Surrounding Areas
Are you struggling with a dog that barks frequently on your walks? Fortunately, you are not the only one struggling with this problem.
There is also a solution to getting your dog to be quiet on leash walks. We can help you create a quiet dog now.
This week we met at Sunny Lake in Aurora with Corrina, Gary, and their dog Millie, a boxer mix. Millie was reacting so much on leash walks that they were struggling with walking her.
The walks were no longer fun and the owners dreaded them. They felt lost. Everytime Millie saw a dog she lunged and barked on the leash.
We have done numerous sessions with them focusing on counter conditioning around other dogs. When Millie sees another she gets chicken.
Because the owners did tons of training in Aurora, dog training had improved greatly. Millie was reacting much less on walks. As a result, it was time to meet at Sunny Lake.
We came at a time when there would only be a few dogs. What we noticed is that Millie had a hard time listening to any basic obedience commands on this leash walk because she was so distracted.
I have noticed this often, when a dog is reactive on leash walks their anxiety seems to be higher even when there are no dogs around. As a result, we recommend that you take your dog to a variety of dog-free locations in Aurora. Dog training basic commands is your focus.
You want your dog to be able to listen to basic commands in environments where there are no other dogs. In Aurora that is easy. Just drive to a super market parking lot, any vacant parking, a busy street with side walks etc. Somewhere dogs are unlikely to be.
Then at these locations train your dog to respond to basic commands: target, leave it, loose leash walking, name recognition, watch, stay, sit, etc. Practice this until your dog can respond. In addition continue to set up counter conditioning training with other dogs.
Counter conditioning and desensitization can be complex. So please know that if you live in Aurora, dog training is something that we can help with you. We can personally come to you to help.
