Four Legged Scholars LLC – Chagrin Falls – Dog Training and Surrounding Areas
Are you struggling with a dog that barks frequently in your home? Is this behavior driving you crazy?
We understand and want to help! Let’s help you create a more peaceful and relaxed home now.
Currently, we are training Peanut, a Maltese in Chagrin Falls. Dog Training is focused on helping him be more quiet in the home.
He barks when he sees people pass the house or when he hears noises.
Redirecting the barking behavior can work very well. This means that you are getting your dog to perform another behavior instead of barking. I love using “target” for this.
Put a treat between any of your fingers. Hold your hand at the height of your dog’s muzzle and about a foot away from your dog’s muzzle.
Say “target” once your dog touches your hand c/t (click and treat). Practice this throughout the day in a variety of locations to help with generalization.
Once your dog understands how to “target,” you can attempt to use the command target when your dog is barking.
Make sure you are targeting your dog away from the stimulus that he is barking toward. Once he arrives at you ask him to perform 3-5 commands to get him to stay by you.
Peanut is learning this well in Chagrin Falls. Dog training will need to be persistent and consistent for “target” to work when he is barking.
The owners do their homework, so I know they will get there!
