Four Legged Scholars LLC – Atwater – Dog Training and Surrounding Areas
Are you feeling frustrated because your dog barks on leash walks? Do you feel as if you cannot walk your dog? This is a common issue.
We have much experience dealing with it. As a result, we understand and can help you.
Currently, we have a client from Atwater. Dog training is focused on getting her dog to be quiet.
Currently, she doesn’t walk her dog outside of her yard because it is embarrassing for her. The dog’s name is Cooper, and he is german shepherd.
Last week, we had our first of seven training sessions together. We met at the village park in Garrettsville.
Dog training was a bit of challenge with the distractions. However, Karen and I were up for it. Cooper learned much during our first session. We taught him “target”, “LAT” (look at that), and how to make a “u-turn.”
My dog Seiki, a border collie, also loved to bark a ton on leash walks. And the above technqiues also worked well for him.
Let’s start with LAT. LAT is a simple method where you click when the dog is looking at the trigger. The trigger is the stimulus that is causing the dog to bark.
It is important that the click happens when the dog is looking at the trigger and is quiet. The dog needs to be relaxed when he sees the trigger or just semi-aroused.
If he is too aroused, he will bark and this training method will not work. Once you click the dog will look back toward you and then you give him a treat.
There are not many distractions in Atwater. Dog training involved distractions that Karen could set up in her home with her German Shepherd.
This involved putting treats on the ground, playing sound effects, etc. Cooper is also on leash during this so that Karen can control the distance from the distraction. She then worked on LAT with these distractions.
Targeting gets the dog to move away from the stimulus. Basically, you teach your dog to touch your hand on command.
Making a u-turn is great so you can turn around and walk in the opposite direction. This way you can avoid situations that might trigger your dog.
We are excited to see progress as Karen trains in Atwater. Dog training is easy when you know what to do.
We are helping Karen with each training step so that she can have quiet dog walks.
