Four Legged Scholars LLC – Dog Training – Streetsboro and Surrounding Areas
Yesterday we had another session with Shadow, a Husky, who is doing in-home dog training. Streetsboro is where he lives.
Shadow was definitely struggling with “come’ and was completely ignoring everyone in the house when they called him. It was honestly frustrating for me to see as well.
So yesterday we spent some time getting Shadow to learn to “come” more reliably.
Through dog training, Streetsboro will be impressed by how well Shadow learns to listen. The biggest tools we taught were the following:
1.) Use a prompt to get your dog to “come.” This could be a “kissing” noise, a happy exciting voice, or a lure. The lure seems to work well for many dogs.
We definitely used this with Shadow as we practiced. One person had a treat in his hand, placed it near Shadow’s muzzle, and walked away calling him. He happily followed.
2.) Fade out the prompt as your dog comes better. Once Shadow started to come well we stopped walking and using the lure and just called him. He isn’t quite ready for this step all of the time so we went back to the previous step many times.
3.) Reward your dog every time for coming.
4.) Do not do anything negative when your dog comes.
5.) Grab your dog’s collar after he comes so he doesn’t learn to run off.
6.) If he is distracted go back to prompting him or lesson the distraction.
Overtime as you practice these steps your dog will come more reliably.
Remember to be consistent and persistent with your dog training. Streetsboro dog owner’s will be impressed because your dog will begin to come every time you call him.
