Four Legged Scholars LLC – Streetsboro – Dog Training and Surrounding Areas
Are you frustrated because your dog jumps on your kitchen counter? You are not alone, and we can definitely help you.
Unfortunately, this is a common issue. Autumn, a Labrador, that we trained in Garrettsville, Ohio had issues with counter jumping.
Shadow, a Siberian Husky, also had the same problem and he lived in Streetsboro. Dog training helped them stay off the counter. Let’s help you create peace in your kitchen too.
1.) Keep your kitchen counter bare. If your dog jumps up and sees nothing of value on it, he will be less likely to continue this behavior.
2.) Teach your dog to stay on a rug or on a place. Autumn’s place was outside of the kitchen in the dining room. You can do this too or have the placemat inside the kitchen.
3.) Reward your dog for not jumping on the counter. This worked great for Shadow. His owners live in Streetsboro. Dog training can involve something called behavior catching.
This means you simply reward your dog for doing the behavior you want without requesting a command. So Shadow’s owners would c/t whenever Shadow was in a sit, down or standing in the kitchen and NOT jumping on the counter.
4.) Keep your dog out of the kitchen unless you are watching your dog. Your dog will jump on there if you aren’t looking until he knows to stay off. Close doors to keep him out, put up a gate, put him in his crate, or tether him to you.
