Four Legged Scholars – Ravenna – Dog Training and Surrounding Areas
Does your dog refuse to go into his crate? Or if you can get your dog into his crate, does your dog attempt to get out? We understand your stress. You are not alone and Four Legged Scholars (Ravenna) Dog Training can help you.
If you just acquired a new family member it is good to begin teaching your dog to like his crate right away. This will ensure obedience. Ravenna has a few places where you can purchase a crate. I personally like the Tracker Supply Company because it has good rates.
If you have had your dog for a while, and he still hates his crate, don’t worry this article will teach you techniques that will help you with your dog training. Ravenna is also an area that many dog trainers serve so you can get personal help if needed.
It is a great idea to feed your dog his meals in his crate. At first, you can put his food immediately at the entrance of the crate. Then after a couple of days move it a bit farther back. Repeat this process, gradually, until your dog will eat in his crate with the door open.
Having the crate in your sight while you are resting in your living room can help greatly. Leave the door open. Whenever, your dog naturally goes into his crate on his own c/t (click and treat). Remember consistency is a must with your dog. If you live in Ravenna, dog training help is not far away and you have many options.
We also recommend using a technique that is called shaping. Stand near your crate and c/t any forward movement your dog does toward his crate. Keep clicking and treating this behavior.
Then begin to c/t successive approximations as your dog moves closer and closer to his crate. From there c/t successive approximations as your dog moves farther and farther into the crate.
This allows your dog to have a personal choice to go into the crate or not. As a result, your dog will not feel forced to move through his fear but instead will be empowered to make his own choice.
As humans we can more easily move through our fears if we process the fears at our own pace rather than being immediately pushed into the feared scenario. Dogs are the same way.
Covering your crate or getting a crate that has solid walls rather than wire walls can help your dog remain more calm as well. Sometimes when dog’s cannot see out of the crate they are more likely to be obedient. Ravenna’s Tracker Supply Company has solid crate options.
We highly recommend DAP as well. This is a pheromone that can calm a dog or puppy. I would recommend that you get the plug-in form.
DAP works naturally so you may not have to perform any dog training. Ravenna does not have Petco but Kent does and you should be able to purchase this product there. Some dogs may respond best with both dog training and DAP.
The more you practice crate training, the more your dog will practice obedience. Ravenna friends will be impressed by how well your dog is crate trained.
