Does are your heart drop when your dog bolts out the front door? Are you worried that your dog might get hit by a car after running out the door? Let’s create peace of mind now.
Again we can do this through dog training. Portage County has many back roads and busy roads where cars might not see your dog in time to stop. We want safety now and training wait at the door will do this!
Watch the video above. It will help you with dog training. Portage County is a great place for me to volunteer. I am at the Portage County Dog Warden in Ravenna, Ohio.
Start with asking your dog to sit. Then take a step toward the door. If your dog holds the sit c/t. If he breaks the sit, don’t c/t. Gradually take farther steps away from your dog as he is sitting and move yourself closer to the door.
C/T every time your dog holds the sit as you are walking toward the door. Once it is time to open the door, start with just touching the door. If your dog holds the sit c/t.
When you are ready to open the door start with opening the door a crack and gradually open the door farther. If your dog holds the sit c/t. If your dog breaks the sit close the door before your dog gets outside. Your dog will become more obedient because he won’t the door shut on him.
You will create the most success if you break this up over a period of days. Your dog will enjoy training if you do the process slowly. Remember we want your dog to have fun during dog training. Portage County has many reward-based trainers that can help you if you need more help.
Happy Training!
