Four Legged Scholars LLC – Dog Obedience – Middlefield and Surrounding Areas
Do you feel stressed because your dog growls at you or others when your dog is laying in certain locations?
You may even feel fear about a potential bite. Fortunately, you are not the only person with a dog this way, and we can help you.
First, and foremost, we recommend consulting with a dog training professional when dealing with aggression because we want to make sure you apply the tools properly and in a safe manner.
Four Legged Scholars LLC, Dog Obedience, Middlefield, can help you, and we can personally go to your home.
Some dogs choose to guard certain locations that they find valuable. This can be their personal dog bed, your bed or your furniture.
If your dog is guarding high up locations like your bed and sofa I would recommend training them to stay off this furniture. If they are not up on it, they cannot guard it.
Train “target” to get your dog to move off the furniture without getting hurt. Please do NOT grab your dog by his collar or push him off the furniture.
He will probably act out if you do so since he guards these locations. By having your dog target he is choosing himself to stay off and you are helping him learn to stay off.
If your dog is guarding locations like his bed, the top of the stairs etc., “target” can also help to move your dog. Ask him to “target” to get him to move to a safe location.
This command is great for dog obedience. Middlefield dog owners will be impressed with how easy it can be to move their dog when their dog knows “target.”
You can also teach your dog that the approach of a person toward these guarded locations means that he will get a special yummy treat.
He will eventually associate the approach of people with “good” things and the growling should start dissipating or stop all together.
When you approach these locations your dog should start showing dog obedience. Middlefield owners will be happy to know their dog now associates the approach of people with good things instead of wanting to growl right away.
In order for this to happen you will need to work with your dog with approaches from a variety of angles, times of day, speeds of approaches and with a variety of different people.
For yummy treats we actually recommend people food rather than getting treats just for dog training. Middlefield has many supermarkets that sell chicken, turkey hotdogs, or cheese.
These items are super high valued and will help make your dog more happy with approaches.
Good luck, and we are happy to help with training dog obedience. Middlefield and surrounding areas is where we serve.
