Let’s start dog training. Ravenna is where we volunteer at the Portage County Dog Warden. We recently worked with a pit bull mix, here, that jumped frequently on me.

When I would walk him on leash, he wanted to jump all over me.  He is a great dog and because he liked to jump often I nicknamed him Pogo. As a Ravenna dog trainer, I thought it was cute. As an average dog owner, I would have been frustrated. So I get it.

Let’s help you with your dog training. Ravenna dog owners will have new knowledge to apply so that their dog can jump on them less during leash walks. Every time Pogo jumped on me I stopped walking or turned my back.

As a result, he was no longer getting attention for jumping. I just stopped doing anything fun. My brakes hit, and I didn’t keep walking forward. I walked forward when Pogo kept his four feet on the ground.

I also gave him a c/t (click and treat). He began to realize that he was going to get rewarded by keeping all fours on the ground.

Pogo learned very quickly through dog training. Ravenna dog owners will find that their dogs can learn quickly as well. The most important aspect is to be consistent and persistent.
