Four Legged Scholars LLC – Dog Training – Ravenna and Surrounding Areas
Do you stress because your dog jumps so much? We know the pain. Let’s help you create peace of mind now.
I believe most of you know to turn your back when your dog jumps. Then as soon as your dog sits click and treat (c/t). This helps a ton to stop jumping.
However, at Four Legged Scholars, Dog Training, Ravenna we also care about what your dog is communicating to you. Some dogs really do need to jump and yet it is a problem.
Let’s give you an example. My daughter Iris is not allowed to run at daycare. Imagine if she wasn’t allowed to run in our house or even outside ever.
For some kids that may not be a big deal but for my daughter it would crush her. She absolutely LOVES to run. As soon as she could walk, running was the next step for her to learn. Once she learned that walking rarely happened….hahahha.
She is 4 years old now. She doesn’t run at daycare and she is allowed to run at home. So she does get to run and she knows where and when she can do it.
I taught my dog Seiki the same thing. He could only jump during his dog sport, Flyball or when I told him it was okay. His command to jump was simple.
I put my arm straight out to the right or left of me and with my palm open and facing toward the floor. I would say “jump.” Seiki would jump up and touch his muzzle to the palm of my hand. He loved this!
It is simple to train. You need to begin with simple dog training. Ravenna has Pogo at the Portage County Dog Warden.
Pogo learned this behavior as well. I taught him to touch his muzzle to my hand when it was low. Then I raised my hand higher and higher. Some of you may know this command as target.
Seiki knew target too. I just changed the command to “jump” when I actually wanted him to jump up instead of just touching his muzzle to my hand.
You will be impressed with how much happier your dog will feel if he knows that he can jump at least some of the time.
We are happy to help you with dog training. Ravenna and surrounding areas is where we serve.
