Four Legged Scholars – Dog Training – Portage County and Surrounding Areas
Are you struggling with finding places to let your dog run off leash? Do you wish there were more off-leash areas to take your dog?
There are many on-leash parks in Northeast Ohio. Of course, you love dog training. Portage County also has many areas where you can exercise and train your dog off-leash.
Let’s get you educated so that you can easily exercise your dog off leash.
First be aware of a few safety guidelines for off-leash dog parks.
- Please note puppies under 6 months of age should avoid dog parks to prevent sickness and trauma from a potential dog fight. They are super sensitive emotionally and susceptible to disease. Proper socialization still needs to happen.
- Also it is best to avoid ball or toy play in dog parks unless the park is free from other dogs. Toys can create fights.
- Honor the small and large dog areas. Predatory drift can happen when you mix small and large dogs together, and this can be deadly.
- Supervise your dog and learn how to read dog behavior. You need to watch your dog at all times to ensure he is playing appropriately and not being bullied by other dogs.
1.) If you live in the northern part of Portage County (Aurora, Mantua, Hiram, Garrettsville) check out the following dog parks:
- Tails ‘N Trail Dog Park is located in Aurora. It appears that it doesn’t get busy so it might be a great place to practice dog training. Portage County will benefit from more obedient dogs.
- Twinsburg is located in Summit County and it is close to the northern end of Portage County. Check out the Twinsburg dog park.
- Garrettsville now has an off leash dog park that is located in the Village Park near the Library.
2.) If you live closer to Kent, Ravenna, and Rootstown you many benefit from two other off leash dog parks that are close to you.
Remember you want your dog to be obedient by practicing dog training. Portage County dog parks will stay positive if the dogs that go to them listen well to their owners.
- Brimfield has an awesome dog park that is rarely used.
- Stowe is in Summit County but is near Kent and Ravenna. There is a park called Bow Wow Beach that is huge. It does have stagnant water so be aware that diseases in the water can be prominent. Make sure your dog is up to date on Leptospirosis.
3.) If you live in the southern end of Portage County, you are in luck! There is an off leash dog park in Suffield. I have a current client that discovered this dog park.
She is currently working on dog training. Portage County dog parks is where she needs to do some of her homework.
Now you can relax and know that you can take your dog off-leash.
We can even meet you at dog park to help you with your dog training. Portage County apparently has many options to enjoy off-leash time!
