Four Legged Scholars LLC – Middlefield Dog Obedience and Surrounding Areas
Are you struggling with a dog that is bolting our your door? Maybe you live by a busy street, and you are feeling super stressed that your dog may get hit by a car.
This is a common fear. Let’s help you feel more peace and get your dog to act smarter.
Follow these steps to get your dog to safley wait at the door, and you will have Middlefield dog obedience.
1.) Practice with your dog on leash so he cannot bolt as you are training. Make sure the leash is attached to something.
2.) Ask your dog to sit directly near the door. As soon as he sits c/t (click and treat)
3.) While your dog is in a sit, touch the door. If your dog stays while you touch the door c/t. Then return to your dog.
Repeat step 3 until it is super easy for your dog to perform. If he doesn’t stay then add an easier immediate step.
You will establish Middlefield dog obedience by doing steps that are easy for your dog to accomplish.
4.) Now, open the door a crack. C/t if your dog stays. If he doesn’t shut the door and make it easier.
By shutting the door you are telling your dog that he doesn’t get to go outside if he breaks the wait.
Return to your dog and repeat until it is easy for your dog to perform Middlefield dog obedience.
5.) Gradually open the door farther and farther until your dog can stay with the door all of the way open.
Once your dog can do this, you will tell your dog to “sit, wait” open the door all of the way and release him to go out.
Impress all of your friends and neighbors with Middlefield dog obedience. Practice makes perfect. You and your dog can master this!
