Have you had a dog trainer that said they couldn’t help you because you just didn’t understand the concepts they were teaching you? The trainer may have called you noncompliant.
Its a common problem and doesn’t help you out at all. It leaves you lost and confused.
When I see a client lost, I think of how can help them understand better? Most people are very willing to learn. They just need a good teacher.
TAGteach is positive reinforcement for you (humans)!
Recently, I had a client, Lisa, that received a puppy named Tank. Lisa was having trouble understanding when to click and treat.
Lisa is a very smart and extremely committed.
As a dog trainer, it is my responsibility to communicate to the point of understanding.
As I communicated to Lisa to click when her dog looked at the crate, she began to click when her dog was in a “down.” Tank was looking at the crate while he was in a “down.” He was getting rewarding for laying down. As a result, Tank started laying down outside of the crate, but I wanted Tank to go into the crate!
I decided to use TAGteach to help Lisa understand when to click.I explained that we wanted to click when the dog moved towards the crate. As we do this, the dog will move towards the crate and will, eventually, go into the crate.
I created a tag: “click when dog moves towards”. The tag was clear and was just 5 words. A short “tag” is easier to understand than a long explanation.
I demonstrated by showing her first. This means that I used the marker “yes” to show Lisa when I was clicking at the appropriate time. Then, I had Lisa practice without Tank. I tagged her with “yes” when she got the timing of the click correct.
Next, we applied it with her dog Tank. Tank began moving towards the crate and Lisa clicked! Eventually, he went into the crate and stayed there for a short time! We did it!
Lisa said TAGteach really helped her understand the training concept better.
The next day, Lisa texted me and said that Tank went into his crate on his own and laid down inside his crate!
TAGteach works! You are in good hands with me! I use positive reinforcement when training your dog, but even better I use positive reinforcement with you! Training is suppose to be fun for you too not just for your dog.
Let’s train together!! I would love to help you understand training concepts so that your dog listens to you even better!
