Four Legged Scholars LLC – Dog Training – Twinsburg and Surrounding Areas
Are you stressed by your dog that barks often on leash walks? This is a common issue. Let’s help you so you can have peaceful leash walks.
Stacey and Justin came to us with their black lab, Laney who barked at other dogs and people on their leash walks.
In fact, Stacey couldn’t even walk Laney on leash. They came to us for help with dog training. Twinsburg is where they live.
In our recent session, we focused on counter conditioning. Every time Laney saw a human or dog, she received continual treats until the stimulus was out of her sight.
Justin stood in the yard with Laney on leash. A dog and human walked by. As soon as Laney noticed the dog, Justin and I began giving Laney treats. We did this for the biker she saw and the man that was walking past the yard too.
The trick is the distance. If you are too close this protocol will not work and you will be dissatisfied with your dog training. Twinsburg dog owners will be convinced that counter conditioning does not work.
The truth is you have to be far enough away from the stimulus so that your dog won’t bark or at least will be able to eat the treats and be quiet.
For Laney that means the dog or person has to be on the opposite side of the street. The same side of the street is too much for her and is too close. She will bark and lunge at this distance.
Now it is your turn to practice counter conditioning in your dog training. Twinsburg and surrounding areas is where we serve so call us if you need professional help.
We recommend help for counter conditioning because it can be a bit confusing.
