Four Legged Scholars LLC – Puppy Training – Garrettsville and Surrounding Areas
Are you sick of your puppy constantly pottying in the house? We understand, and we want to help you.
When you get a puppy many puppies do not understand to go potty outside so they automatically go whenever and wherever they want.
This is a problem. Tracie came to us with her Shih tzu that pottied so much in her basement that it smelled like urine. Like most owners she wanted this behavior to stop.
Here are some things you can do to stop accidents in the house. The steps are a mixture of management and puppy training. Garrettsville owner, Tracie, is much happier now.
1.) Put your puppy on a feeding schedule. Do not free feed your puppy. This will allow them to have a regular bowl schedule.
2.) Take your puppy out every hour. It is best to take your puppy on a 4-6 foot leash and stand still. Do not walk around. Be boring so your puppy is thinking about going potty. Stay outside for 2-5 minutes.
3.) As soon as your puppy goes potty outside, it is time to begin puppy training. Garrettsville owners will want to make sure they reward their puppy for pottying outside.
C/t (click and treat) immediately after your puppy potties outside. If you click while your dog is going potty, then he may stop in excitement and finish pottying in the house.
4.) If your puppy doesn’t potty when you take him out and you know he needs to go soon, go back inside for 5-10 minutes. Then, immediately take him out again following step 3.
5.) Immediately clean up any accidents in the house with Nature’s Miracle. This will take out the potty smell for your puppy.
If you don’t clean it with Nature’s Miracle you may not smell it but your puppy will. As a result, you will have failure with puppy training. Garrettsville dog owners will be disappointed.
6.) When your puppy is at home alone make sure you put him in a crate. Most puppies won’t pee or poop in his / her crate.
7.) If your puppy has any accidents in the house do not yell at your puppy or rub his nose in the accident. Be calm and immediately take him outside to see if he needs to go more.
8.) When you are at home always supervise your puppy so you know when he has to go to the bathroom. Keep him tethered to you or at least in the same room as you.
