Four Legged Scholars LLC – Twinsburg Dog Training
Stacey and Justin came to us with a beautiful Black Labrador named Laney. Stacey felt frustrated because she couldn’t walk Laney at all. She would bark at other dogs and people on the leash.
Besides this, she pulled so hard that Stacey could not control her at all. Justin was a bit stronger so he was able to walk her, but the barking was still annoying. In the yard, Laney would bark at the neighbors.
When people would come over it was stressful because she was intimated by new people. She would avoid them and possibly bark and growl at them.
Stacey and Justin had two children that loved having friends over and her intimidation behavior made this more stressful. The family lived in Twinsburg. Dog training is why they called us, and they immediately purchased the our middle program of eight sessions.
We began pairing visitors with treats. Laney learned quickly that new people meant “good” things. As a result, this behavior changed quickly and the owners noticed how easy it was for Laney to calm quickly with new people. This was definitely a pleasant experience in their Twinsburg home.
The owners purchased a Freedom Harness and practice a technique I showed them for leash walking. As a result, Stacey was able to walk Laney more easily. She still feels frustrated some times.
However, Stacey knows that her mind-set is key. We created an intention statement to help Stacey continually move forward with her dog training. Twinsburg neighbor’s will definitely become more and more impressed.
When Stacey gets frustrated and wants to give up she gets to say this to herself: “I commit to training Laney because I want to enjoy leash walks with her.”
Pairing people and dogs with treats was also our focus to help Laney become more quiet on leash walks when she sees other dogs and people. The owners worked often with this in their yard and noticed that Laney was becoming more and more quiet outside in their yard.
They then to generalized this process to their leash walks. Laney is becoming more and more quiet. We worked on this together with the neighbor’s dog, with bikers, and people that passed their house.
Laney also learned many commands that helped her be more calm on leash walks. These included: leave it, target, responding to her name, watch and turning around.
There was a time during one of our sessions that Laney barked at some bikers and immediately redirected to us as soon as we said “leave it.” This was very impressive.
These owners are highly dedicated and will only see continually improvement with Laney.
We are looking forward to visiting their home again in Twinsburg. Dog training was so much fun with them and we are sure they will have much excitement to share about Laney’s “good” behavior.
