Four Legged Scholars LLC – Obedience Training – Bainbridge and Surrounding Areas
Does your dog’s barking stress you out? First, you are not alone, and second, we are here to help.
Lexi is a cute Havanese. She barks when she is scared, and she feels scared around people and dogs.
When visitors come over to the house, it is stressful for her owners because she barks so much.
Bonnie, Lexi’s owner, is learning much about obedience training. Bainbridge is where they live.
We meet in Middlefield. Today we did training at the Public Library. Sudden noises such as car doors shutting and people leaving and entering their cars is stressful for her.
Bonnie has trained Lexi to be more responsive to her name, target and watch. When Lexi becomes uneasy she uses one of these commands.
By working on obedience training, Bainbridge becomes more peaceful. Lexi’s brain has to snap into her cortex to perform a command. When she is barking she is in her primitive part of her brain.
Bonnie also knows about counter conditioning. This means that Lexi receives treats in the presence of the triggers. This helps change her emotional response to be more calm and to associate people / noises with yummy treats. There are times she doesn’t want to eat the treats.
This is because Lexi is stressed. This has nothing to do with obedience training. Bainbridge dog owner’s will benefit in learning that when your dog is stressed he is less likely to eat. As a result, higher powered treats can work better (cheese, hotdogs, chicken, etc.).
Bonnie also showed me a video of Lexi becoming more comfortable with a visitor in their house. Due to obedience training, Bainbridge was able to celebrate Lexi’s success. Her body language changed from being stressed to more calm with this visitor.
A calm dog is a quiet dog. Call us for help with your obedience training. Bainbridge and surrounding areas is where we serve.
We also will drive to Ashtabula, Portage and Trumbull counties.
