Four Legged Scholars LLC – Puppy Training – West Farmington and Surrounding Areas
Is your new puppy blowing you off? Are you stressed because your puppy is not following your command? We understand how stressful this can be.
Anne is working with us personally on puppy training. West Farmington is where she lives. Her puppy, Teddy, a Labradoodle, listens now. Your puppy can learn to listen to you too.
Here are a few tips to help create more puppy peace in your home.
1.) Supervise your puppy at all times so unexpected items don’t get chewed. This also prevents unknown house accidents from happening.
2.) Crate your puppy when you are not able to watch him.
3.) Reward good behavior that you like. With Teddy we immediately started rewarding with a c/t (click and treat) when he was sitting and not jumping on people.
We also gave him a c/t when he was chewing on appropriate toys.
Praise or give your dog attention for behavior that you like. It is really easy to just give attention to negative behavior and this doesn’t work well for success with puppy training. West Farmington is a happy place because Teddy is learning to behave so well and he is receiving attention for it.
4.) Use a portion of puppies kibble for training.
5.) Begin obedience training immediately.
6.) Socialization is paramount.
7.) Make sure your puppy does something good to get what he wants. I usually like a sit.
If your puppy learns a default sit he will be more likely to sit when he wants things instead of barking, whining or jumping.
8.) Ignore attention getting behaviors such as whining to get out of his crate, barking for a treat, barking to get pet, jumping to get pet, etc.
Reward your puppy as soon as he does the good behavior (sit, quiet, etc.).
9.) Above all remember consistency and persistence is needed for successful puppy training. West Farmington dog owners will reap the benefits in the near future if they follow the above recommendations.
