Four Legged Scholars LLC – Windsor – Dog Training and Surrounding Areas
Do you stress when you drive with your dog because he barks in the car? We understand. Let’s create a more quiet car now.
I want to address quick solutions to this problem. People with busy lives can have a quieter car in Windsor. Dog training is not needed for the easy solutions.
I will be focusing on management where we change the environment. I am referring to dogs that are barking outside stimuli that they see while you are driving.
If you have a small dog or a large vehicle for your large dog, a crate is a great option. Cover your crate so that your dog cannot see outside. If your dog can’t see he will definitely be quiet quickly.
I also love the calming / thunder cap. It is a piece of cloth that covers your dog’s eyes and works similar to horse blinders. I love it!
I do recommend training your dog to get use to it first before using it in the car. Have positive things happen while your dog wears it such as eating dinner or treats. Once he likes it try it in the car.
Your dog is still able to see. The cap cuts down how far your dog can see distance wise. Adding a dog seatbelt will prevent your dog from being able to run up to the window.
For those owners that have extra time in Windsor, dog training may be the answer for you. I love training a “down stay” in the car.
Again if your dog can’t see out the windows, he will be more quiet. Bring treats with you and c/t as your dog holds the down. You will need to reward frequently and remind your dog often to “down.”
Once your dog begins to hold it you can then give less treats. It also will work best if you train down in the car first for short durations and gradually increase the time duration.
Lastly, if you still need help you can consult with Four Legged Scholars LLC, Windsor, Dog Training. We will personally come to you and help you out.
