Four Legged Scholars LLC – Dog Training – Newbury and Surrounding Areas
Are you struggling with a dog that is not listening to you, and do you want to hire a dog trainer?
There are many options out there. We want to make sure that you end up with a trainer that is “good” and will create peace of mind in your home.
Here are some “treats” for thought:
1.) Is the trainer a good listener and does the trainer take a good intake? Anyone can rush into your home and immediately start training your dog.
However, without a plan your results won’t be that great. Things will be unorganized and you will be less likely to create great results.
At Four Legged Scholars LLC, Dog Training, Newbury we spend much time during our initial session with our clients.
We sometimes spend 1.5 hours taking a good intake so that we know exactly what is going on in your home. As a result, the training plan we come up with will be sure to work!
2.) Does the trainer help you complete your homework? Many trainers are more than happy to give you homework but do they ensure completion? It is important that the homework is written down so that you remember what to do.
Good trainers will write it down for you. Also, if you have trouble completing your homework there is a reason. Work with a trainer that will help you figure out why the homework isn’t being done so that you can commit to completing it the following week.
I am a Certified NLP (neurolinguistic programming) Life Coach. This allows me to see the blocks in people’s minds. These blocks are thoughts or emotions that make doing the homework difficult.
I will help you blast through obstacles so that you can easily complete your homework with your dog training. Newbury dog owners will be held accountable in a friendly and helpful manner.
3.) Does the trainer come session by session or do they have you purchase a package / program up front? It is important when creating a training plan to know up front the number of sessions that are being done.
This allows the trainer to have a clear roadmap that will ensure results. If the trainer just comes whenever, disorganization can be created. Money will be spent and results will be less likely.
4.) What types of training methods does the trainer use? It is always best to go with a reward-based dog trainer. It works for aggression, obedience, fearful problems, etc.
The American Veterinarian Society of Animal Behavior has a great article based upon science on why reward-based dog training is so important.
There are many types of trainers that are can perform dog training. Newbury has punishment based trainers nearby. Please stay from these as more behavioral problems can develop.
5.) Does the trainer have you do the training? There are many trainers that offer board and train.
With board and train there is no guarantee that your dog will generalize the commands that he learns with the trainer to you or to the environment that you live in.
It is best for the owner to do the training. This ensures that the people end of dog training is addressed.
Yes what you do does affect your dog’s behavior and board and train does not address this. Many people do board and train, spend tons of money, and come home with a dog that still doesn’t listen to them.
We are happy to help you with dog training. Newbury and surrounding areas is where we serve.
We can also personally come to your home. We help you do the training and use reward-based dog training.
